 Hello, my name is Derrick Bowman. I want to take a few moments to introduce myself to you. I am the pastor of Calvary Free Presbyterian Church located in northwest Atlanta.
The Lord called me to the Gospel ministry when I was fifteen years old, but it was not until my college days at Bob Jones University that I began to have a burden for the Atlanta area. It was at Bob Jones University that I was introduced to Faith Free Presbyterian Church pastored by Dr. Alan Cairns. With an emphasis on preaching, prayer, and evangelism, the ministry of the Free Presbyterian Church was a great encouragement to me. I learned many valuable lessons, such as the need for sound, Christ- centered preaching, the need for separation from compromise, and the need for prayer and the filling of the Holy Spirit. These truths summarize the ministry of the entire Free Presbyterian denomination.
I graduated from Geneva Reformed Seminary (the denominational Seminary of the FPC) in May of 2004. After graduation, my wife Lydia, and oldest son Nolan, and I were all sent by the Presbytery to serve an internship under Pastor Ian Goligher at the Free Presbyterian Church in Cloverdale, British Columbia, Canada, a suburb of Vancouver. From June of 2005 until May of 2006, I served as a full-time assistant to Pastor Goligher.
In May of 2006, my family, now with the addition of our second son Hudson, moved to Hiram, Georgia. The Lord has led me very clearly to the northwest sector of this great and growing city. My burden is not just to start another church among the hundreds that already exist. My burden is to see people saved and growing in the Lord in this community. I desire to see men and woman living their lives looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
